14.36 - 2006-06-13 Over the weekend, we went to A-kon, which is the fan-run anime convention that transpires here in DFW (That's Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas). There were some really neat things, like the excellent Paine (FFX-2) cosplayer, and there were some really horrible things like the shirtless yaoi fairy person and the dozens of morbidly obese lolita girls. But we got to watch an awesome fan parody video called S.T.E.A.M. the Movie! That was great, as well as the Narutowned AMV, which most likely won the expert AMV contest. There was also a girl with a Reno BJD, and a guy cosplaying as a Chocobo. That Chocobo was awesome. In the meantime I found a shoujo manga that I actually like okay (Full Moon wo Sagashite) and got to read something called Chibi Vampire which was pretty funny and cool. I must always remind myself that sure as I write off an anime as being "boring and dumb" or something like that, there is usually something there to surprise me. And that is good. I always like it when things redeem my faith in them. I now want to find some way to download music again, since I like the ending theme to Fantastic Children, and want to here Sakuranbo (I think that is what it's called). Unfortunately, throughout those fun three days something malicious was developing close to home. My pinky finger (right) was really red and sore on Friday, and gradually an alarming yellowy-white spot began to grow under the flesh around the nail. As there was no wound to be seen, I eventually got really worried about this and begged to be taken to the doctor. I guess I would have to come crawling back to the doctor at some point or another. The well-being of my finger depended on it, after all. For the most part, I just wanted to know what was going on and for my finger to get better. For a while we weren't sure whether a spider had bitten me while I was sleeping or if my finger was rotting off or something. I began to get the feeling that the cuticle had just gotten infected somehow and that things had gotten out of hand because it looked (and felt) pretty bad. So! Off to the doctor we went, where they told me that I had a staff infection (basically what I just described), and prescribed me some antibiotic pills and cream to clear it up. Then I talked to the doctor for a while, and the told me what they would do, and the proceedure turned out to be exactly what I wanted to happen, and that was good. It was kind of like surgery without anesthetic. If that sounds scary and painful, it kind of was. Just painful, not scary. Stop reading now if you are squeamish. she took a scalpel and opened the swollen puss-filled cavity in my finger, and squeezed all the infectious mess out of it, creating a really large hemotoma (blood blister). This hurt a LOT, but I would rather clench my teeth and deal with it than get a shot which would probably hurt too. She offered it to me, but I declined, since it seemed like a waste of time and I just wanted someone to professionally address my finger. And the pain went away fast (it isn't like it hadn't been hurting for three days anyway) so I'm beginning to think I can give doctors another chance. Another faith renewed. I might just send that doctor a thank-you letter or something. It always seems funny to me that I talk longer about some graphic medical experience than the other things that happen. There was a lot of cool stuff at A-kon tho. Kouji bought Angelic Layer and I bought Divergence Eve, but I guess we can say that we split both ^_~ And we got to ride the Dart train from Arlington to Dallas where the hotel was, we ate at Chipotle (one of my favorite resturaunts), and saw lots and lots of pidgeons. I think I will surf the net somemore now and download more wallpapers and Ranma pictures. bye for now.
